Kyna Clemons is a textile quilts artist, lecturer, activist, and home-school educator in the Washington, Dc area. Vibrants colors, geometrical patterns, and indigenous fabrics from Africa and other places around the world set her quilts apart. A graduate of Howard University, Ms. Clemons draws inspiration for her quilts from the lives and quilt-making traditions of early African and African-American artisan.
Believing strongly in the need to preserve the lost art of quilting, Ms. Clemons has passed down the quilting traditions to her six daughters. She is the owner of Gyame Quilt Studio, where she creates and teaches beginning and advanced quilting classes. Ms. Clemon's signature Scraps of Africa Interactive Heritage Workshops are impacting the lives of people across the diaspora as they trace their family heritage through the quilting tradition and revive their ancestral quilting legacies.
